Object: IC 4628

The Prawn Nebula, NGC 4628, aka Gum 56, is located near the tail of the Scorpion. This object lies about 6000 light years from Earth and is illuminated by strong UV radiation from nearby hot, young stars.

Located in the lower center of the upper right quadrant is a stellar-looking object surrounded by a small nebulous patch which can be seen clearer on the higher resolution images provided here. This object is identified in the SIMBAD database as reflection nebula GN 16.53.2.
