Object: M 104

The Sombrero Galaxy was discovered by Pierre Mechain in May 1781. Lying at a distance of about 50 million light years, this galaxy has a span of about 100,000 light years along its major axis. It is one of the brightest and most massive of galaxies in the Virgo Group.
