Object: NGC 7293

One of the closest planetary nebulae to Earth, the Helix Nebula is estimated to be about 650 light years away and span nearly 2.5 light years across its major axis.

This 16 hour total H-alpha exposure of NGC 7293 captures the very faint outer regions of the nebula. Many of the exposures that went into compiling this image were taken around the time of Full Moon
