Object: M 5

One of the largest known globular clusters, M5 spans 165 light-years in diameter and lies 25,000 light-years from Earth in the direction of the constellation Serpens. It was discovered in 1702 by German astronomer Gottfried Kirch, well before Messier first observed it in 1764.
