Object: LDN 1622
This seldom imaged object, Lynd’s Dark Nebula 1622, lies just off the northern extension of Barnard’s Loop in Orion. The small molecular cloud is an area of high star formation activity currently being studied to determine its relationship with nearby OB star associations. To me the prominent dark lane looks like a horror story character coming out of the mist, so I call it the “Boogie Man” Nebula.
Total exposure time was 20 hours 20 minutes. This image is the result of a collaborative effort between Howard Hedlund of Astro-Physics, Inc. and Dave Jurasevich.
