Object: SL 17 Fenrir Nebula
SL 17 is the designation of this faint dark nebula in Scorpius. Its unofficially dubbed the Fenrir Nebula for the monstrous wolf of Norse mythology. Mentioned in Norse literature back to the 13th Century, Fenrir, a son of Loki, was a vicious beast who killed the great Norse deity Odin. In this image one can certainly visualize a leaping wolf with mouth agape and front legs poised to attack.
